About
![]() I have been a landscape & location photographer for longer than I care to remember. I've worked for the tourism industry and organisations such as the National Trust, Countryside Agency, National Parks, AA Publishing, etc. However, grey skies and dramatic lighting aren't always what the tourism people want, otherwise holiday-makers might imagine that it sometimes rains in the Lake District... and we can't have that! I have published more than 40 books to date - as either writer, or photographer, or both - with the most recent title being a particularly gorgeous tome called Moods of Yorkshire. There are plenty of other books in the pipeline. I try to show not just what the landscape looks like... I try to show what it feels like too. I'm not too keen on big, bland, blue skies, and my favourite weather forecast is "changeable". I don't feel I've had a proper day's photography unless I've been soaked to the skin at least twice... My collection of stock photographs now comprises about 50,000 images of the North of England. These are mostly on fine quality Fuji Velvia film: accepted as the 'industry standard' for landscape photography. It was when Fuji stopped making this film that I decided to go digital. I was worried about having to 'unlearn' everything I knew about photography and embrace this new technology. However, it took about three days with my new camera (a Nikon D200, since you ask...) to realise that my worries were largely unfounded. Digital photography is great, even though it's not as easy as some people imagine. As with film, it's easy to take well-exposed, in-focus pictures; what's hard is taking - making - exceptional images, day in, day out. This website is a showcase for my stock photography. I will be adding a lot of my 35mm film images as I scan them. New digital images will be added straight away. The pictures are sorted into galleries. I hope you'll enjoy browsing through them. Go to the 'Locations' page for a list of places and locations I have on film. Like the galleries, this list is ordered county-by-county. What I sell are the rights to reproduce pictures in publications and other media. I am not currently offering photographs as prints to hang on the wall. If I can help you with your picture needs, give me a call on 07941-630420. Email me on hurlmere@btinternet.com or via the 'Contact' page. Thanks... John Morrison |
